The author responds to a commentary by C. J. Vinkenburg entitled "Titles matter: Addressing the normalization of othering" in which she criticizes the use by the author of the word "they" to refer to multicultural employees in a previous paper. She agrees with Vinkenburg that care must be taken not to use language that might connote unintended meanings. However, she does not agree with Vinkenburg's suggestion that the "they" be changed to "we." Instead she proposed her own solutions for mitigating the othering implied by the "they."
