The article discusses the medical care industry in Minnesota from the 1950s through the early 2010s, including in regard to the development of cardiac pacemakers in the state. An overview of U.S. investments medical technology, including in regard to efforts to draw foreign investment to the U.S. from Malaysia, China, Canada, Thailand and Romania, is provided. An overview of the medical technology company Medtronic, including its outsourcing of its corporate operations and its acquisition of Chinese medical technology companies, is also provided. Technological innovations in the medical care industry, including the role that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plays in this regard, are discussed.
