In this lecture published as an article, Gerhard Krüger ponders over the conflict existing between modern scientific thought and Christian faith. He strives to answer the following questions : how and why did this conflict irrupt ? What is the real bone of contention between modern science and Christian faith ? Is modern science’s fundamental understanding of time only offending Christian faith, or is man as a natural being that acts in the world also challenged by it ? Finally, what concession would modern thought have to agree to in order to bring about a resolution to the conflict ?
