El presente artículo reflexiona sobre el uso y abuso que una parte del nacionalismo vasco ha hecho, y aún hace, de la historia para construir una memoria colectiva propicia a sus intereses. En primer lugar, se analizan dos ficciones históricas en las que se fundamenta buena parte de la historia mitológica vasca:
por un lado, el tópico de la primigenia del pueblo vasco y, por otro, el mito del ancestral aislamiento y la legendaria independencia de los vascos respecto a otros pueblos, incluido el romano. Seguidamente, se exponen los argumentos históricos que contradicen la memoria colectiva nacionalista vasca.
This article reflects on the use and abuse that a part of Basque nationalism has done, and still it does, of history to build a collective memory to their interests. First, there are analyzed two historical fictions on which there bases much of the mythological Basque history, first, the topic of the original of the basque people and, on the other, the myth of the ancestral isolation and the legendary Independence of Basques. Finally there are exposed the historical arguments that contradict the collective nationalistic basque memory.
