En este artículo enfoco la importancia que tiene el portafolio y la reflexión como componentes singificativos en la evaluación en un curso de escritura. Ofrezco una definición del portafolio, enfatizando las características más importantes que un portafolio de escritura debería tener.
Luego, presento las diferencias más resaltantes entre este tipo de evaluación y las pruebas estándar. A continuación, presento el concepto �reflexión� y exploro las ventajas de brindarles a los estudiantes las oportunidades de pensar y escribir sobre los logros cuando se utiliza un portafolio de escritura. Concluyo el artículo ofreciendo sugerencias prácticas para docentes y estudiantes que deseen comenzar y mantener un portafolio en una clase de escritura.
In this article I concentrate on the importance of the portfolio and reflection as significant components of evaluation in a writing class. I give a definition of portfolio, emphasizing the more important features that a writing portfolio should have. This is followed by a comparison between the more significant differences of this kind of evaluation and standard tests. I then discuss the concept of �reflection� and explore the advantages of giving the students the chance to think and write about what they have achieved with their writing portfolio. The article concludes with practical suggestions for teachers and students who would like to start and keep up a portfolio in a writing class.
