La Ritmomaquia, un juego popular en los siglos XVII y XVIII, era un juego de tablero altamente complejo en el que las habilidades matemáticas desempeñaban un papel importante. En este artículo se describirá someramente este juego y se relatarán las opiniones de Fray Martín Sarmiento sobre su utilidad como recurso pedagógico. En particular, se mostrará lo avanzado del pensamiento de Fray Martín, que defendía la importancia de la actividad física para la juventud y sostenía que los juegos podían ser poderosas herramientas educativas y socializadoras. En concreto, como se detallará aquí, la Ritmomaquia le parecía un espléndido método para desarrollar variadas habilidades matemáticas de forma amena. Se finalizará aportando conclusiones en las que se mostrará la importancia de la no suficientemente conocida vertiente educativa de Sarmiento.
The Ritchmomachy was a popular and common game in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries. It was a highly complex board game in which the mathematical skills had an important role. In this article we will try to describe the rules of this game and we will also make a report about the Father Martin Sarmiento�s opinions in relation with the utility of this game as a pedagogic resource. We will show how advanced the Fray Martín's ideas were in conexion to his time, because he was already defending the physical activity importance on the youth people and he was also supporting that some games could be a very efficient educational tool in order to develope social and interactive competences. Particularly, as we are going to detail here, the Ritmomachia was a splendid method to develop varied mathematical skills in a simple way. We will finish the article making a reflexion about the present importance of this less-known part of the Fhater Martin Sarmiento�s work.
