Se expone brevemente la evolución histórica del fenómeno bibliotecario y se define la Bibliotecología como la ciencia social que estudia dicho fenómeno. Se tratan las bibliotecas médicas como un tipo diferente al resto de las bibliotecas especializadas. Una vez analizadas las características de la formación de los recursos humanos bibliotecarios en el país, se concluye que existen deficiencias en su formación que atentan contra sus posibilidades para desarrollar actividades relacionadas con la biblioterapia o el esparcimiento de los pacientes.
The historical course of bibliothecary phenomenon concisely exposed and bibliothecology is defined as the science that studies this phenomenon. Medical libraries are considered as different from other specialized libraries. After the analysis of the main features of human resources formation we concluded that there were some imperfections in their formation that interfere in their posibilities to carry out bibliotherapy related activities and patient entertaiment.
