    Sobre el origen de la Educación Ambiental en Venezuela existe mucha polémica debido a la poca bibliografía existente, de igual manera sucede acerca de su importancia para definir y caracterizar la identidad nacional y la cultura latinoamericana.

    En tal sentido el objetivo general de este trabajo es interpretar algunos documentos existentes para dar respuesta sobre su posible origen y su influencia en la consolidación de las culturas latinoamericanas. Para la realización de este trabajo se procedió a la revisión de documentos elementales sobre Educación Ambiental; trabajos de investigación; fundamentación legal y referencias electrónicas. Su importancia radica en el aporte de conocimientos que sobre educación conservacionista, hoy educación ambiental, se ha generado desde la colonia hasta la presente fecha. Entre las conclusiones destacan: este tipo de educación que se imparte en Venezuela, pudo haber tenido su origen durante el siglo XVIII, con la influencia de Simón Rodríguez y su discípulo Simón Bolívar quien genera los decretos conservacionistas entre 1825 y 1828; durante el siglo XX surge un marco legal que orienta el proceso, pero que tal vez tuvo un sentido mas de politiquería que de verdadera Educación Ambiental; el proceso de Educación Ambiental queda consolidado en Venezuela a través del artículo 107 de la Constitución de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y, finalmente, queda demostrado que a través de la Educación Ambiental se define y caracteriza la identidad nacional y la cultura latinoamericana.

    There is great controversy surrounding the origins of Environmental Education in Venezuela due to the shortage of bibliography on the matter, as well as its importance to define and characterize national identity and Latin American culture. In this sense, this paper aims to interpret existing documents to answer the questions related to its possible origin and influence in the consolidation of Latin American cultures. To write this paper, different key documents on Environmental Education were consulted, research papers, legal proceedings and electronic references. The importance of Environmental Education lies in the knowledge bequeathed by conservational education, known today as environmental education, generated from colonial times until today. Among the conclusions, we can highlight: this type of education offered in Venezuela may have had it origin during the 18th century, with the influence of Simón Rodriguez and his disciple Simón Bolívar. Between them, the conservationist decrees were drafted between 1825 and 1828. During the 20th century, a legal framework is created to channel the process, but at the same time had more political undertones than that of real Environmental Education. The Environmental Education process was written into article 107 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and it is finally proven that Environmental Education defines and characterized national identity and Latin American Culture.
