Aunque tradicionalmente ha sido negada u ocultada, existe en la historia de los Estados Unidos de Améca una herencia hispana que se refleja, entre otros ámbitos, en el terreno lingüítico. De manera que el español hablado en ese país presenta muchas influencias de las variantes dialectales que las comunidades hispanas allí asentadas han mantenido como señal de identidad. En este artículo se presenta el perfil sociodemográfico de los hispanos de Estados Unidos, al tiempo que se abordan otros temas como la evolución de la cultura chicana, la influencia de la inmigración hispana en el ámbito escolar o las características del spanglish.
Although it has traditionally been negated or covered up, United States history contains a Hispanic heritage that is reflected, among other places, in linguistics. Therefore, the Spanish spoken in the U.S. has many influences from dialectic variations of the Hispanic communities that settled there, aspects which they held onto as part of their identity. This article presents the sociodemographic profile of Hispanics in the U.S., while also examining other topics, such as the evolution of Chicano culture, the influence of Hispanic immigration upon schools and the characteristics of Spanglish.
