El análisis que aquí se presenta se acerca a las actitudes que los ciudadanos latinoamericanos muestran hacia la democracia. Se trata de indagar hasta qué punto la población considera que ésta es la mejor forma de gobierno, y cuáles son los determinantes que ayudan a explicar esta preferencia. Asimismo se presentan los niveles de confianza hacia las principales instituciones democráticas, quedando patente el descontento que existe hacia los partidos políticos y parlamentos. Finalmente se indaga en qué medida están presentes en la ciudadanía actitudes que facilitan el apoyo a una democracia estable, actitudes que están en función de la legitimidad que se le otorga al sistema político y de los niveles de tolerancia política.
The analysis presented here discusses the attitudes of Latin America citizens toward democracy. This analysis poses a two-fold question: to what end do Latin American populations consider democracy to be the best form of government and what factors are the determinant ones that help to explain this preference? Further, this analysis demonstrates the levels of confidence in principal democratic institutions, showing with striking clarity the discontent that exists towards the political parties and parliaments. Finally, the analysis investigate to what end are attitudes present in the citizenry that facilitate the support of a stable democracy, attitudes that are a function of the legitimacy that is bestowed upon the political system and upon levels of political tolerance.
