El indizador como lector profesional debe ser visto dentro de su contexto socio-cultural y socio-cognitivo. Se propone un análisis de los abordajes cognitivo y socio-cognitivo en Ciencias de la Información con la finalidad de fundamentar la in-vestigación sobre el uso de estrategias de enseñanza de lectura documental para la formación inicial del indizador. Las investigaciones sobre lectura documental para la indización desarrolladas inicialmente desde aproximaciones cognitivas de observa-ción de las tareas propias del indizador tuvieron gran importancia para el conoci-miento de estrategias de la lectura profesional. Al abordar el modelo interaccionista de lectura entre las variables texto-lector-contexto, se delimita un acercamiento so-cio-cognitivo necesario para que el indizador, como lector, tenga una visión más amplia del contexto socio-cultural.
The indexer is considered individually, in a cognitive approach, as a pro-fessional reader. Due to the information processing he carries out during the docu-mentary reading for the subject analysis, the indexer must be considered in his so-cial-cultural context that comprehends professional performance in social-cognitive approach. Consequently, it is proposed a theoretical analysis on the socio-cognitive and cognitive approaches in Information Science in order to establish the searching on the use of teaching strategies of documentary reading for the indexer's initial education. The research on documentary reading for indexing, at first developed with cognitive approach observing the indexer's task is of great importance to the knowledge of reading and professional reading. Nevertheless, approaching the inter-active model of reading carried out by the interaction among the three variables, text-reader-context, it is circumscribed a social-cognitive approach necessary to the indexer, as a reader, in order to enlarge his vision of socio-cultural context
