Difference and the politics of group representation [JAUME URGELL] This article is about difference, and about institutional representation of difference. The author reflects on the implications of difference in contemporary liberal democracies, and how should the political sphere cope with difference. The argument is that difference is an inextricable characteristic of human experience, and a positive aspect of life. However difference has also rendered life miserable for many people throughout history. In this sense, the main goal of this article is to review some of the contemporary discussions about inclusion and recognition, and focus on a political assessment of parliamentary group representation.
