Rethinking the National Question [JOSEP SORT] Lately, literature on nation and nationalism has been increased due to the publication of many academic studies that want to renew reflexion on national phenomenon. Not casually, one of the most active focus points in this process is in Quebec. It seems that, after the 1995 referen- dum on sovereignty experience, this country wants to rethink many of the traditional assumptions in order to face the new challenges posed by the xxi century. In other words, he is experiencing a true brainstorming process about the national phenomenon. This article analyzes some of the main contributions recently published on this issue. These works are interested in the relationship between nationalism and liberalism, in how to manage or accommodate cultural pluralism, in the politics of recog- nition and so on. Although we focus on Quebeckers authors, attention to English Canadian or of the rest of the world authors is also been paid.
The main conclusion of this article is that nationalist movements have to incorporate cultural pluralism in their political platforms, in order not to repeat the same errors of the jacobin nation-state model.
