An introduction to the ONG (non governmental organisations) [JOAN GOMIS] When very few people started, not longer than twenty years ago, to talk about ONG in Spain, and to use this term (ONG) to refer to the organisations where we were working of running, almost nothing was known about them. Nowadays the ONG are a reality which can even be considered fashionable. The media constantly refer to them and there are often debates about them on television. So, I think that now we must think of them more deeply than the way television or magazine articles usually do.
With the ONG it is happening something similar to what happens to the characters of any other human activity -politics, art, sport, etc.-People talk about them very often and you realise that it is possible that one day they will not be promises for any longer and they will become be famous characters of a certain importance for the future, even though one could not have imagined it before. So, something similar is happening to the ONG.
