This article analyzes the needs of teachers and students at Quanzhou Normal University for their understanding of the traditional music information teaching mode of Nanyin. This type of research typically employs a questionnaire survey method. Therefore, two 15 item information data three-dimensional questionnaires were developed to evaluate teacher knowledge, teacher preparation, and perceived importance, as well as students’ prior knowledge, learning motivation, and learning preferences. The content validity index (I-CVI) validated by experts ranges from 0.86 to 1.00, and the average content validity index (Ave CVI) for teacher and student questionnaires is 0.96 and 0.94, respectively. Cronbach’s α the coefficient shows a high validity of internal information data (0.921 for teachers and 0.922 for students). An online survey involving 15 teachers and 35 students showed that teachers self-reported a strong understanding of the cultural background of traditional Nanyin music and emphasized the need for a specialized information data teaching module. The students expressed their interest, motivation, and preference for structured collaborative learning. Therefore, the next step is to design and develop a specialized module to effectively teach Nanyin music to meet the identified needs.
