The paper analyses how deepfakes can create explicit content without people’s consent, raising ethical and legal concerns. Legal research is used to analyse the legal implications of deepfakes and explains how these technologies, such as generative adversarial neural networks (GANs), work. It discusses how deepfakes are used to create non-consensual pornography, severely affecting people’s privacy and dignity. The paper also analyses current laws and the need for stricter regulation to address the malicious use of deepfakes. The urgency of developing robust legal frameworks and the responsibility of technology platforms to protect victims is highlighted. Furthermore, the need for better detection tools and public education on how to identify this type of content is underlined.
