Este artículo se centra en los problemas específicos que surgen al desplegar redes móviles 5G en el sector patrimonial de Quito, donde las demandas tecnológicas, como la necesidad de estaciones mucho más cercanas, chocan con la preservación del patrimonio cultural y arquitectónico. Exploramos cómo estos despliegues experimentan tensiones entre la modernización y la conservación, destacando la necesidad de encontrar un equilibrio para una implementación exitosa de 5G que respete su identidad y patrimonio cultural.
The implementation and upgrading of mobile network technologies face challenges that affect the deployment of projects, especially in heritage cities. These challenges go beyond the technical, threatening significant investments and limiting the development of new services. Addressing them strategically becomes crucial to ensure long-term success. This article focuses on the specific issues that arise when deploying 5G mobile networks in Quito’s heritage sector, where technological demands, such as the need for much closer stations, clash with the preservation of cultural and architectural heritage. We explore how these deployments experience tensions between modernization and preservation, highlighting the need to find a balance for a successful 5G deployment that respects its cultural identity and heritage.
