Teaching research contributes to generating knowledge and solving social problems. In addition, in the case of research in preschool education, it is necessary due to the lack of studies in this area. This can be achieved through thesis courses. However, thesis projects and theses themselves require evaluation according to quality standards. Therefore, the objective of this research is to evaluate the levels of achievement of research competencies in tenth cycle students participating in a thesis course of the professional career of preschool education at a private university in Lima - Peru. The sample was 21 students, who developed 16 theses that were evaluated with rubrics. The results showed satisfactory progress in relevance and originality, thematic mastery, quality of references, and mastery of writing standards. However, an advance in process in methodological coherence.
Regarding the final report of the thesis, satisfactory progress was achieved in the criteria of methodology, discussion of results and research ethics. Nevertheless, in the general wording, in the conclusions and the abstract, a “progress in process”.
