Aunque figura en algunos catálogos de falacias, también resulta posible reconocer contextos y empleos del argumentum ad ignorantiam en que este no resulta falaz, sino bastante razonable. Para contribuir a la discusión sobre la argumentación por la ignorancia, este artículo pretende ampliar la taxonomía de las apelaciones a la ignorancia. En primer lugar, se sistematizan los esquemas formales del argumento considerados en la bibliografía. A continuación, se consideran algunas variantes según el componente del argumento (datos, garantías o respaldo) y la fase de la argumentación involucrada (confrontación, apertura, argumentación y conclusión). Finalmente, se caracterizan diferentes usos de la apelación a la ignorancia con distinto alcance (además de los casos acotados habituales, otros usos hiperbólicos y estratégicos). Mediante el recuento de algunas modalidades de argumentación por la ignorancia no solo resulta comprensible el ambivalente vínculo con el desconocimiento en nuestra tradición filosófica, sino también algunas de las actuales formas de manipulación y fabricación de la ignorancia.
Although it appears in some catalogues of fallacies, it is also possible to recognize contexts and uses of the argumentum ad ignorantiam in which it is not fallacious, but rather quite reasonable. In order to contribute to the discussion on arguments from ignorance, this article aims to expand the taxonomy of appeals to ignorance. First, the formal schemes of the argument considered in the bibliography are systematized. Next, some of its variants are considered according to the argument component (data, warrant or backing) and the stage of the argumentation involved (confrontation, opening, argumentation and conclusion). Finally, different uses of the appeal to ignorance with different scope are characterized (in addition to the traditional limited cases, other hyperbolic and strategic variants). By recounting some modalities of argumentation from ignorance, not only the ambivalent link with ignorance in our philosophical tradition becomes understandable, but also some of the current forms of manipulation and fabrication of ignorance.
