El modelo hilemórfico fundamentó moralmente el descubrimiento, conquista, colonización y evangelización del Nuevo Mundo. La dificultad y denuedo de la empresa, y los consiguientes frutos que reportó, sirvieron, a su vez, como imagen o réplica de la conquista del alma, en la que, merced a la oración, meditación y contemplación, el hombre va a descubrir y conquistar un tesoro, y va dar forma a la materia. Si el tesoro de las Indias es humano (y colectivo), el del alma, es divino (e individual), pero los dos requieren ser descubiertos, conquistados, conformados y regidos por la ley divina.
The hylemorphic model morally founded the discovery, conquest, colonization and evangelization of the New World.
