En este artículo se reflexiona sobre la fractura entre el régimen y la sociedad en Egipto en lo que respecta a la cuestión palestina. Egipto fue el primer país árabe en establecer relaciones diplomáticas plenas con Israel en 1978 y desde entonces la brecha no ha dejado de ensancharse, como se ha evidenciado tras la brutal ofensiva israelí sobre Gaza iniciada en octubre de 2023. A medida que las relaciones egipcio-israelíes se han ido consolidando a lo largo del tiempo, tanto en el plano político como el securitario o el económico, las posibilidades de la población de manifestar su rechazo han ido menguando en un contexto político de autoritarismo reforzado.
This article reflects on the rift between the regime and society in Egypt over the Palestinian issue. Egypt was the first Arab country to establish full diplomatic relations with Israel in 1978, and since then this rift has continued to widen, as evidenced by Israel's brutal offensive on Gaza in response to Hamas-led attacks on 7 October. As Egyptian-Israeli relations have consolidated over time at the official level, be it political, security or economic, the opportunities for the population to express its rejection of such normalisation have diminished in a political context of increased authoritarianism.
