    On Earth or in Poems explora los usos y sentidos de Alándalus en la cultura contemporánea. Alándalus “resuena”, y su legado y su memoria sirven a muy distintos propósitos y proyectos políticos y culturales en todo el mundo, que tienen más que ver con “las necesidades del presente que con entender el pasado”. Dadas la compleja espacialidad y temporalidad de Alándalus, el magma casi infinito de percepciones y sentimientos que genera, Calderwood sugiere que la historia de Alándalus más que de aprender a tolerar la diferencia va de “aprender a tolerar la contradicción”.

    On Earth or in Poems explores the uses and meanings of Al-Andalus in contemporary culture. Alándalus “resonates”, and his legacy and memory serve very different political and cultural purposes and projects around the world, which have more to do with “the needs of the present than with understanding the past.” Given the complex spatiality and temporality of Alándalus, the almost infinite magma of perceptions and feelings that it generates, Calderwood suggests that the story of Al-Andalus, rather than learning to tolerate difference, is about “learning to tolerate contradiction.”
