La crisis urbana de Madrid acaecida durante la posguerra española empujó a la transformación de la ciudad. Estos cambios no sólo significaron una alteración de la morfología de la capital sino también de las interacciones sociales entre quienes la habitaban. Anquilosados en las chabolas, los gitanos se enfrentaron a un clima de rechazo en que hubo numerosos enfrentamientos que acabaron por frenar su incorporación social en el contexto de la democracia incipiente. Este artículo analiza la configuración del problema de la vivienda con relación a los gitanos y cómo aquello derivó en una crispación social protagonizada por los vecinos payos.
The urban crisis in Madrid that happened during the Spanish postwar drive to the transformation of the city. These changes not only meant an alteration of the morphology of the capital but also of the social interactions between those who inhabited it. Living in the shacks, the Roma faced a climate of rejection in which there were many confrontations that ended up slowing down their social incorporation in the context of incipient democracy. This article analyzes the configuration of the housing problem in relation to the Roma and how this drive to a social tension led by the non-Roma neighbors.
