Se proporciona un análisis detallado de la distribución geográfica y sectorial de la FDI española, destacando la importancia de sectores como la banca, las manufacturas y la logística.
The paper presents an analysis of the evolution and anatomy of Spanish investment abroad during three decades of globalization and economic diversification. The paper highlights that Spain went from being a commercially isolated economy to becoming a significant player in the global economy, with a remarkable increase in Spanish direct investment abroad (FDI). It refutes the conventional narrative on the evolution of Spanish FDI, which, contrary to what the Investment Register data indicate, tends to focus on Latin America as the main investment destination, and shows that the reality is more diverse and complex. The paper underlines that Spanish FDI has experienced steady growth and significant geographic and sectoral diversification, with an increase in investments in developed and emerging countries beyond Latin America.
