Water is essential for any ecosystem. Rainwater runoff occurs in both natural and man-made environments. The water, therefore, also drains over the city. But how does this drainage occur? The water disappears under the streets through the sewer network. It becomes imperceptible. This article is the result of a research that aims to better understand the logic of water flow in highly urbanized territories. The research consists of the preparation and analysis of a cartography about the traces of water flow in the Barcelona metropolitan territory. The work methodology used consists in the preparation of a cartographic database using Geographical Information Systems and starting from the restitution of historical cartographies. The cartographies and the resulting story become a basis for responding to the new challenges of urban design in the metropolis resulting from the various crises we are experiencing
L’aigua és imprescindible per a qualsevol ecosistema. L’escolament de l’aigua de pluja es produeix tant en entorns naturals com en entorns antropitzats. L’aigua, per tant, també drena a la ciutat. Però com es produeix aquest drenatge? L’aigua desapareix sota els carrers a través de la xarxa de clavegueram. Es fa impercetible. Aquest article és fruit d’una recerca que té per objectiu comprendre millor les lògiques d’escolament de l’aigua en territoris fortament urbanitzats. L’estudi que es presenta consisteix en l’elaboració i anàlisi d’una cartografia de les traces d’escolament de l’aigua al territori metropolità de Barcelona. La metodologia de treball emprada ha consistit en l’elaboració d’una base de dades cartogràfica mitjançant Sistemes d’Informació Geogràfica i partint de la restitució de cartografies històriques. Les cartografies i el relat resultant esdevenen una base per donar resposta als nous reptes del disseny urbanístic de la metròpolis derivats de les diferents crisis que estem vivin
