The intensification of the migration phenomenon that developed in Italy in the second half of the 19th century – and which took on a "massive" dimension at the beginning of the 20th century – prompted the Italian government to take legislative measures aimed at introducing tools for the protection of Italian citizens who embarked for the new world. The article analyses these legal measures.
