Desde su llegada a Inglaterra el embajador Sarmiento de Gondomar hubo de sufrir un auténtico diluvio de pasquines, panfletos y libelos, una auténtica biblioteca de "escarnio y maldecir" ad hominem, aunque tampoco faltaran diatribas contra su hacer (buen hacer) diplomático, su rey y su reino. Tales y tantos papeluchos, como se los denominaba entonces, certificaban su exitoso desempeño político hasta el punto de crear para él una especial iconografía que lo entroniza como uno de los archienemigos de Inglaterra y de su forma de entender el mundo ( y esto es muy grave para ellos ) haciéndole compartir podio en la Historia Universal de la Infamia con Felipe 11 y... Hitler. En el articulo El verbo inflamado: política, imprenta y otros vituperios estudiamos los principales hitos de la literatura panfletaria contra el embajador y nos sirve de pórtico para el estudio y la traducción del libelo de Scott, el más fiero enemigo del embajador gallego, titulado El Fantasma de Sir Walter Raleigh, el centinela de Inglaterra, se aparece al malvado embajador Gondomar y que hoy por primera vez ve la luz en español. Since his arrival in England, Ambassador Sarmiento de Gon domar had to suffer an authentic deluge of lampoons, pamphlets and libels, a veritable library of ad hominem "sneering and cursing11, although there was no lack of diatribes against his diplomatic work (good work), his king and his kingdom. Such and so many dishrags, as they were called then, certified his successful political performance to the point of creating for him a special iconography that enthroned him as one of the archenemies of England and his way of understanding the world (and this is very serious for them) ma king him share the podium in the Universal History of Infamy with Felipe 11 and... Hitler. In the article 'Tbe inflamed verb:polítícs, printing and other insults', we study the main landmarks of pamphleteering literature against the ambassador and it serves us as a portal for the study and translation of Scott's libel, the Galician ambassador's fiercest enemy, entitled 'The Gbost o/ Sir Walter Raleigh, thesentinel of England, appears to the evil ambassador Gon domar'and today for the first time sees the light in Spanish. We accompany the translation with sorne brief biographical notes of the protagonists and a brief bibliography
