Más que ante una emergencia climática estamos ante un genocidio climático provocado por una dinámica social en la que los que más sufren los efectos del cambio climático -y los que lo sufrirán en el futuro- son quienes menos han contribuido al mismo. Y ello con una ausencia de respuesta adecuada de los Gobiernos ante un problema que se conoce científicamente desde hace más de 35 años. Estamos, por tanto, ante un problema político y ético, de justicia climática y de dimensión global e intergeneracional. Sin embargo, vivimos una época de crecimiento de movimientos negacionistas y cortoplacistas que, unidos a los intereses de grandes empresas multinacionales, capitalizan el malestar social derivado de los efectos de la descarbonización; y sus alianzas con partidos políticos conservadores, que hasta ahora habían aceptado los acuerdos internacionales en materia ambiental y climática, están poniendo en riesgo nuestro futuro y colaborando al potencial "genocidio climático".
More than a climate emergency, we are facing a climate genocide caused by a social dynamic in which those who suffer the most from the effects of climate change -and those who will suffer it in the future too- are those who contributed the less to it. Moreover, without an adequate response from Governments to a problem that has been scientifically known for more than 35 years. Therefore, we are facing a political and ethical problem. A problem of climate justice and of global and intergenerational dimension. However, we live in a time of growth of "denialist" and short-term movements that, together with the interests of large multinational companies, capitalize on the social unrest derived from the effects of “decarbonization". In addition, their alliances with conservative political parties, which until now had accepted international agreements on environmental and climate matters, are putting our future at risk and collaborating with potential “climate genocide”.
