    The main objective of this article is to apply the Hypothetical Extraction Method (HEM) in manufacturing of Belo Horizonte and its Metropolitan Region (that is, the Belo Horizonte Population Arrangement) to quantify in selected economic indicators the importance of this sector in the national, regional, and local economic structure. A series of negative externalities were computed in terms of gross product, multipliers, changes in key sectors, employment, income, and workforce qualification, demonstrating in a factual way that excessive specialization in the service sector can generate negative consequences at the local and national level. At the same time, it was highlighted that the service sector is very interdependent in terms of its key sectors with the activities of the manufacturing

    O principal objetivo do artigoé aplicar o Método de Extração Hipotética(MEH) na indústria manufatureirade Belo Horizonte e Região (i.e, o Arranjo Populacional de Belo Horizonte-APB),para sequantificar em indicadores econômicos relevantes a importânciae efeitodesse setor na estrutura econômicanacional,regionale local. Uma série de efeitosnegativosforam computadas em termos do produtobruto, multiplicadores,mudanças nos setores chave, emprego, renda e qualificação, demonstrando de maneira factual que a ausência deste setor gera consequência negativas em nível local, regional e nacional,ou seja, existe uma grandeinterdependênciadas atividades econômicas da indústria manufatureirado APB com os demais setoresda economia do país.
