Founded on the indivisibility of the Republic, France has refused to institute a plurilingual state. It has organised a subtle co-existence between French, the language of the Republic according to article 2 of the 1958 Constitution, and the regional languages, which were recognised in 2008 as part of the national heritage.
La France, fondée sur l’indivisibilité de la République, refuse d’instituer un État plurilingue. Elle organise une coexistence subtile entre le français, langue de la République selon l’article 2 de la Constitution de 1958, et les langues régionales, dont l’appartenance au patrimoine national a été reconnue en 2008.
