Este capítulo examina la figura de Nayib Bukele, el actual presidente de El Salvador, quien llegó al poder presentándose como una emergente figura joven y renovadora de la política, poseedora de un discurso rebelde, iconoclasta, pero sobre todo persuasivo con su elocuenciaprogresista y justiciera. Los argumentos que se formulan a lo largo del texto tienen, por el contrario, el objetivo de demostrar lo artificial e ilusorio de dicha imagen. A lo largo del ensayo se ofrecen datos, tanto coyunturales como de más largo aliento, e interpretaciones en el contexto de la historia reciente de la república salvadoreña, que demuestran que Nayib Bukele es un líder populista más, que llega al poder por vías democráticas, pero que, sin embargo, es un personaje autocrático que está dispuesto a desmantelar las instituciones democráticas y atropellar las reglas constitucionales con tal de afirmar su control personalista del poder.
This paper examines the figure of Nayib Bukele, the current president of El Salvador, who came to power presenting himself as a young emerging figure and a renovator of politics, possessing a rebellious, iconoclastic discourse, but above all persuasive with his progressive and righteous eloquence. The arguments that are formulated throughout the text have, on the contrary, the objective of demonstrating the artificial and illusory nature of said image. Throughout the essay, data are offered, both conjunctural and longer-term, and interpretations in the context of the recent history of the Salvadoran republic, which show that Nayib Bukele is one more populist leader, who came to power through democratic means but who, however, is an autocratic character who is willing to dismantle democratic institutions and run over constitutional rules in order to assert his personalist control of power.
