En los últimos años se han investigado varios casos en los que «a través de manadas» se atenta sexualmente contra la integridad de menores de edad. El quebrantamiento de la libertad de sexual o de la indemnidad sexual de los menores de 16 años constituye un tipo de delito que genera sensibilidad en la sociedad, suscitando polémica y debates en los medios de comunicación. El caso Arandina ha provocado una discusión social y jurídica debido a los dos pronunciamientos diametralmente opuestos entre la sentencia de una Audiencia Provincial y la Sentencia de un Tribunal Superior de Justicia.
