La asistencia sanitaria tiene en los Reales Hospitales General y de la Pasión de Madrid la institución sanitaria más señera y longeva de la Monarquía Hispánica. Forma parte del entramado político por su relación con el Real Consejo de Castilla, hecho que justifica este estudio, cuyo objetivo principal es desentrañar el grado de autonomía del Hospital y su dependencia con el Consejo Regio. A tal fin, las fuentes documentales inéditas son el principal recurso, en especial del Archivo Regional de Madrid y del Archivo Histórico Nacional, junto con el Histórico de la Nobleza y el del Palacio Real, así como, las Constituciones y Ordenanzas de la Institución y, docu-mentación publicada del Consejo Real. Dada la poca atención que el tema ha susci-tado en la historiografía, el desarrollo debe iniciarse con un apartado conceptual y establecer sus precedentes, para poder situar el panorama sanitario de la época y la evolución de la atención terapéutica que dará paso al estudio evolutivo de la institu-ción, para terminar con la delimitación de las competencias judiciales y sus conflic-tos a modo de epílogo quedará reflejado el cambio de paradigma sobre el tema con el Estado liberal. Las conclusiones determinarán el grado de autonomía del Hospital general, causas y efectos.
Health care has in the Royal General and the Passion Hospitals of Madrid the most distinguished and long-lived institution of the Hispanic Monarchy. It is part of the poli-tical framework due to its relationship with the Royal Council of Castile, a fact that justifies this study, which the objective to reveal the degree of autonomy of the Hospital and its dependence on the Royal Council. To this end, unpublished documentary sources are the main resource, especially the Regional Archive of Madrid and the National His-torical Archive, together with the Historical of the Nobility and the Royal Palace, as well as the Constitutions and Ordinances of the Institution and, published documenta-tion of the Royal Council. The scant attention that the subject has received in historio-graphy, oblige to begin with the development of a conceptual section and establish its precedents, in order to situate the health panorama of the time and the evolution of therapeutic care that would give way to the evolutionary study of the institution, to con-clude with the delimitation of judicial powers and their conflicts as an epilogue, the paradigm shift on the subject with the liberal State will be reflected. The conclusions will determine the degree of autonomy of the General Hospital, causes and effects.
