Los mapas temáticos son considerados recursos didácticos idóneos para el proceso educativo de la geografía física. La enseñanza por medio de mapas permite al estudiante comprender, efectuar análisis e interpretar el medio que los rodea. La investigación se desarrolló con el objetivo de analizar la aplicación de los mapas temáticos como recurso didáctico en la enseñanza de la Geografía Física a nivel educativo. La revisión bibliográfica a profundidad sobre mapas fue el eje en el que giro la metodología que se empleó, apoyada en el método analítico y sintético para la sistematización de la información obtenida. Entre los principales resultados destacan las teorías concebidas y el deficiente uso de estrategias didácticas acordes al contenido de la clase, afectando al reconocimiento y lógica espacial, a las habilidades cognitivas, comprensión y análisis del entorno, así como las diferentes concepciones de aprendizaje de la geografía física. Se concluye que el uso de mapas temáticos es una estrategia pertinente para la instrucción de la geografía física, ya que aporta al crecimiento cognitivo, desarrollo de habilidades espaciales, sentido territorial del educando. Se considera que el recurso es idóneo para potenciar las deficiencias académicas en cuanto a la comprensión de la geografía física local, nacional y mundial
Thematic maps are considered suitable teaching resources for the educational process of physical geography. Teaching through maps allows the student to understand, carry out analysis and interpret the environment that surrounds them. The research was developed with the objective of analyzing the application of thematic maps as a didactic resource in the teaching of Physical Geography at an educational level. The in-depth bibliographic review on maps was the axis in which the methodology that was used turned, supported by the analytical and synthetic method for the systematization of the information obtained. Among the main results are the theories conceived and the deficient use of didactic strategies according to the content of the class, affecting the recognition and spatial logic, cognitive skills, understanding and analysis of the environment, as well as the different conceptions of learning geography physical. It is concluded that the use of thematic maps is a pertinent strategy for the instruction of physical geography, since it contributes to cognitive growth, development of spatial skills, and the student's territorial sense. The resource is considered to be suitable for enhancing academic deficiencies in understanding local, national and world physical geography.
