El artículo ofrece un panorama completo de la enorme obra del penalista Álvaro Bunster Briceño, poco conocida en Chile, pese a que el autor fue el maestro de muchos de los principales penalistas del país de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. El artículo explica la evolución que llevó a este autor desde su inicial filiación al formalismo de la escuela italiana liderada por Filippo Grispigni, hacia una ciencia penal basada en principios y fines inmanentes al ordenamiento jurídico. Un ejemplo de esta evolución es el estudio de Busnter sobre la legítima defensa contra regímenes políticos tiránicos.
The article provides a complete overview of the vast scholarship of the criminal lawyer Álvaro Bunster Briceño, little known in Chile, despite the fact that the author was mentor of many of the country's leading criminal lawyers in the second half of the 20th century. The article explains the evolution that led this author from his initial affiliation to the formalism of the Italian school led by Filippo Grispigni, towards a criminal science based on principles and purposes immanent to the legal system. An example of this evolution is the Busnter's study on self-defense against tyrannical political regimes.
