La evolución de las cabañas ganaderas, a lo largo de la Edad Moderna, en los territorios del norte y el sur del País Vasco y Navarra influyó en las prácticas de circulación del ganado y en la red de vías pecuarias, obligando a modificar las primeras y a establecer una clara delimitación de las segundas, en el área mediterránea, ya desde finales del siglo XV y comienzos del XVI, y en el área atlántica, sobre todo desde el XVIII.

The evolution of livestock herds throughout the Modern Age in the northern and southern territories of the Basque Country influenced the practices of livestock circulation and the network of livestock routes, forcing the former to be modified and the establishment of a clear delimitation of the latter, in the Mediterranean area since the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century, and particularly since the 18th century in the Atlantic area.
