An incomplete inscription (AE, 1951, 62), little known and little used, provides important information on the beginnings of the cult of Augustus deified in Narbonne. This inscription concerns a notable of the colony of Narbonne, whose burial place was established on his domain, at a distance from the capital. The whole family is the subject of a memorial presentation. The main character followed the course of honors, combining a municipal career and an equestrian career. The guardianship of the templum divi Augusti in the colony reflects his reactions to the news of the prince’s death. The career is extended by higher functions which we are not able to define precisely. The comparison with an inscription of Cuers, colony of Arles (AE, 1999, 1016), allows us to consider the role that this important religious building of the provincial capital would have subsequently played.
Une inscription incomplète (AE, 1951, 62), peu connue et peu utilisée, apporte des renseignements importants sur les débuts du culte d’Auguste divinisé en Narbonnaise. Elle concerne un notable de la colonie de Narbonne, dont la sépulture fut établie sur son domaine, à distance du chef-lieu. L’ensemble de la famille fait l’objet d’une présentation à caractère mémoriel. Le personnage principal a suivi la carrière des honneurs, associant une carrière municipale et une carrière équestre. La curatelle du templum divi Augusti dans la colonie traduit sa réaction à l’annonce de la mort du prince. La carrière se prolonge par de plus hautes fonctions qu’il n’est pas possible de définir précisément. Le rapprochement avec une inscription de Cuers, colonie d’Arles (AE, 1999, 1016), permet d’envisager le rôle qu’aurait par la suite tenu cet important édifice religieux de la capitale provinciale.
