The paper analyzes the trend of reading, distribution and use of public libraries most recent data in southern Italy than northern, also in light of Covid-19 pandemic. It reflects on reasons for the delay that we generally recognize in southern public libraries, in a more general cultural, social and economic gap between north and south; some re-launch hypotheses are proposed and the main aspects on which it is necessary to invest to reduce this gap are highlighted.
