Los archivos portuarios al servicio de los organismos gestores de los puertos, son los centros encargados de la custodia, organización y difusión de los fondos documentales portuarios. La presente comunicación pretende dar a conocer su contenido, vital para la historia económica, social y laboral de nuestro país. Hace un recorrido por los diferentes archivos de los puertos destacando el trabajo llevado a cabo por los pioneros: Tarragona, Huelva y Santander. Se constatan las diferencias existentes entre unos puertos y otros por lo que a la gestión de su archivo se refiere y se concluye con una llamada de atención a los organismos portuarios para que sean conscientes de su patrimonio documental y de la necesidad de conservar y difundir la memoria escrita de los puertos.
Port archives at the service of the institutions managing ports are the centres devoted to the guard, organization and spread of ports document funds. This paper intends to present its contents, which is essential for the economic, social and labour history of our country. It deals with the ports archives, and emphasizes the work done by the pioneers: Tarragona, Huelva and Santander.
It shows the existing differences among ports regarding the management of their archives, and ends with a warning to port institutions so that they get conscious of their documentary heritage, and the need of preserving and spreading the ports written memory.
