La ría de Avilés (Asturias, España) ha condicionado, desde tiempos remotos, el crecimiento y el desarrollo urbanístico, social y económico de la ciudad. La explotación de los recursos que ofrecía y su privilegiada situación favorecieron la instalación, en sus márgenes, de numerosas iniciativas industriales. Antes de la gran industrialización avilesina, capitaneada por EnSIDESA en la década de los años cincuenta, nacieron en la villa y sus inmediaciones diferentes empresas dedicadas a conservar y procesar pescado. En este trabajo se analizan desde los pequeños proyectos hasta las dos factorías insignias del sector: Massó hermanos, S.A. y harinas de Pescado ALFA, S.A.
from a long time ago the Avilés estuary (Asturias, Spain) has conditioned the urban, social and economic growth and development of the city. The utilization of its resources and its privileged location favoured the settlement of several industrial initiatives. Before the great industrialisation of Avilés, highlighting EnSIDESA in the fifties, other companies of canned and processed fish were born in the city and the surroundings. This paper analyzes small and incipient projects and delves into the two most powerful companies: Massó Hermanos S.A. and harinas de Pescado ALFA, S.A.
