This contribution explores the EU concept of the vulnerable consumer through the eyes of EU non-discrimination law. It explores the meaning, scope, and effect of EU law’s notion of the vulnerable consumer by contrasting it with the way EU non-discrimination law recognises and protects vulnerabilities. Specifically, it aims at identifying potential overlaps in the approaches and questions whether there is indeed room for cross fertilisation within the two concepts. As such, it will improve our understanding of the scope of the concept of the vulnerable consumer, how it fits within the existing EU framework for combatting exclusion, and its potential ability to dismantle market disadvantages that lead to financial, cultural and social exclusion.
