  Como elemento fundamental de un discurso que pretendía justificar la legitimidad del golpe de estado que habían llevado a cabo, los militares golpistas van a ir desarrollando un elaborado discurso de exalta ción de sus muertos, honrando a aquellos que morían bajo sus banderas, fruto de lo cual será la erección de diferentes monumentos funerarios de enaltecimiento por todo el país; en la provincia de Pontevedra, aunque haya varias iniciativas fallidas en este sentido, será el mausoleo erigido en la capital el único que pretenderá honrar su recuerdo
