    El 14 de agosto de 2018, el mismo año de la entrada en vigor del Reglamento General de protección de datos, Brasil, el país con mayor población de América del Sur, aprobó su primera Ley de protección de datos, Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados - Lei 13.709 de 2018, una de las primeras normas de la región directamente influidas por el RGPD y que, a la vez que recoje las características del sistema legal brasileño, expresa la convergencia internacional sobre los principios básicos de la protección de datos en el mundo, como se expone en este artículo.

    On August 14th 2018 the same year of the entry into force of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Brazil, the country with the largest population in South America, adopted its first Data protection Law, Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados - Lei 13.709 de 2018, one of the first regulations in the region that has received direct influence from the GDPR, and that while reflecting the characteristics of the Brazilian legal system, expresses the international convergence around basic principles of data protection in the world, as explained in this paper.
