In Spain the inspection of citrous fruits, and especially oranges, has two objects. First, to prohibit the exportation of fruit tainted with any of the disease to wich it is subnecto, or damaged by atmospheric conditions; and second, to prohibit the exportation of fruit not coming up to a fixed standard of perfection in regard to its weight, colour or shape. the later is for quality, and both inspecions are being continually carried out at the Spanish ports and frontier railway depots.
The inspecion wich is in the hands of Civil Service experts, has bieen effected continuously for over four years. the mere advertisement of its institution resulted in the upward trend in the prices of Spanish citrous fruits in the various markets. the outcome of this inspection has been so eminently satisfactoy that it may be started that today the purchaser abroad knows that whenever he buys a Spanish orange, he is acquiring first quality fruit.
