La actividad turística forma parte de los principales sectores económicos para República Dominicana. Este país posee 123 áreas protegidas reconocidas por el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales. La provincia de Puerto Plata posee áreas protegidas aptas para el turismo, destacando el Monumento Natural Saltos de la Damajagua, una de las más visitadas en el país. Esta investigación propone nuevas vías de desarrollo para el turismo en áreas protegidas de Puerto Plata a través del turismo comunitario y el club de producto turístico. También, se presentan las diferentes áreas protegidas de la provincia bajo estudio, sobre todo, la diversidad de fauna y flora. Para realizar esta investigación se han utilizado fuentes secundarias científicas, además de dos técnicas cualitativas: entrevista y observación participante.
The tourist activity is part of the main economic sectors of the Dominican Republic. This country has 123 protected areas recognized by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources. The province of Puerto Plata has protected areas that are suitable for tourism, especially the Natural Monument of the Damajagua Falls, one of the most visited in the country. This research proposes new ways of development for tourism in protected areas of Puerto Plata through community tourism and tourism product club. Also, the diverse protected areas of the province under study are presented, above all, the diversity of fauna and flora. In order to carry out this research, secondary scientific sources have been used, besides two qualitative techniques: interview and participant observation.
