Mesmo com a evolução que a humanidade presenciou desde os tempos mais remotos, alguns entendimentos e concepções não seguiram o mesmo ritmo. Pode-se dizer que é o caso do que é ‘ser homem’ e do que é ‘ser mulher’ em termos conceituais, sociais e culturais pré-concebidos que continuam sendo os mesmos ao longo dos anos. Tratar de questões que versam sobre sexo, gênero e relações de gênero está no rol de assuntos em pauta na atualidade. Assim sendo, o objetivo deste ensaio é trazer uma discussão teórica acerca das relações de gênero, os estereótipos e a violência simbólica. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão de literatura para expor tais temas a partir da percepção de diferentes autores, em especial, das contribuições de Pierre Bourdieu. A principal contribuição deste trabalho reside na extrapolação da distinção entre os conceitos a respeito de sexo e gênero ao descrever a manifestação destas relações no mercado de trabalho, da simplificação almejada com os estereótipos e da violência simbólica, que reforça as relações de poder e de dominação (in)visível presentes na sociedade até os dias atuais.
Even with the evolution that humanity has witnessed since the most remote times, some understandings and conceptions did not follow the same pace. This can be said to be what it is to ‘be a man’ and what it is to ‘be a woman’ in preconceived conceptual, social and cultural terms that remain the same over the years. Dealing with issues related to sex, gender and gender relations are currently on the agenda. Thus, the aim of this essay is to bring a theoretical discussion about gender relations, stereotypes and symbolic violence. For this, a literature review was carried out to expose such themes from the perception of different authors, especially from the contributions brought by Pierre Bourdieu. The main contribution of this work is the extrapolation of the distinction between the concepts of sex and gender in describing the manifestation of these relationships in the labor market, the simplification aimed at stereotypes and the symbolic violence that reinforces the relations of power and domination (un)visible present in society to this day.
