    El Cardenal Ruffini ha sido una pieza clave en la asistencia social de nuestro país. De ello dan cuenta los centros de servicio social, obras sociales y demás fundaciones llevadas a cabo por él. Una de ellas, la Institución de Asistentes Sociales Misioneras, se hizo cargo de formar a las primeras promociones de asistentes sociales de la Escuela Universitaria de Trabajo Social “Nuestra Señora del Camino” de León.

    Ruffini no sólo destacó por su carisma y liderazgo en la acción social, sino por luchar contra el paternalismo inherente a la caridad tradicional y el tecnicismo de la época con la ayuda de asistentes sociales, así como por dar importancia a la moral profesional. Sensibilidad ésta que ha sido inoculada en la Escuela desde su misma fundación.

    El Cardenal se inspira en el humanismo cristiano pero respeta la ética, la técnica y la metodología de la asistencia social del momento. Un ejemplo a seguir que aúna ética de máximos en armonía con la ética de mínimos profesional. Por todo ello, nuestro objetivo consiste en contextualizar y explicar la propuesta de servicio social del Cardenal Ruffini, su repercusión en la Escuela fundada por él y su contribución al pluralismo moral en el Trabajo Social.

    Cardinal Ruffini has been a key player in our country's social assistance. The social service centres, social works and other foundations carried out by him bear testimony to that. One of them, the Institution of Social Missionary Assistants, was in charge of training the first classes of social workers of the University School of Social Work "Nuestra Señora del Camino" in León.

    Ruffini not only stood out for his charisma and leadership in social action, but for fighting the paternalism inherent in traditional charity and the technicality of the time with the help of social workers, as well as for giving importance to professional morality. The School has been inoculated with this sensitivity since its very foundation.

    The Cardinal was inspired by Christian humanism but respected the ethics, the technique and the methodology of the social assistance of that time. An example to follow that combines maximum ethics in harmony with minimum professional ethics.

    Therefore, our objective is to contextualize and explain Cardinal Ruffini's proposal of social service, its repercussion in the School founded by him and his contribution to moral pluralism in Social Work.
