El maltrato infantil se constituye en uno de los problemas sociales más importantes de nuestro tiempo, pese a los esfuerzos científicos desplegados, aún persisten vacíos respecto de los procesos subyacentes a la conducta de los maltratadores, sean padres o tutores responsables de niños, niñas y adolescentes.
El presente artículo aborda el tema de la violencia hacia los niños/as, específicamente la negligencia materna, caracterizada por ser un maltrato pasivo que realiza la madre o progenitora. Profundiza en las vivencias de las mujeres que inciden en el ejercicio de una maternidad negligente. Describe y caracteriza aquellas particularidades de vida familiar que pudieran dar cuenta de tales conductas, con el propósito de fortalecer las intervenciones profesionales generadas desde los servicios sociales y el Estado en su rol garante de los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes.
Child abuse is one of the worst social problems of our time. Despites cientific efforts, there are still gaps concerning the processes underlying the abusers’ behaviour, whether they are the parents or guardians responsible for children and teenagers.
This article addresses the issue of violence against children, and specifically maternal neglect, characterized by a passive abuse by the mother. It is an in-depth study of the experiences of women who have been involved in maternal negligence. It describes and characterizes those peculiarities of family life that could be the reason for such conducts, in order to strength en professional interventions created from social services and the State in its role as guarant or of children’s and teenagers’ rights.
