In view of the bicentenary of the discovery of the mosaic of Carabanchel, through documents preserved in various archives from Madrid, this paper reconstructs the history of the discovery of the first Roman mosaic found in Madrid, as well as the historiography of the first archaeological research that took place in Carabanchel (Madrid) during the nineteenth century. Finally, an iconographic and chronological review of the mosaic itself, which is preserved in the Museum of the Origins of Madrid, is carried out, within the framework of the urban archaeological site of Carabanchel.
Con motivo del bicentenario del descubrimiento del mosaico de Carabanchel, este artículo reconstruye mediante los documentos conservados en diversos archivos madrileños la historia del hallazgo del primer mosaico romano en Madrid, así como la historiografía de las primeras indagaciones arqueológicas que, durante el siglo XIX, tuvieron lugar en Carabanchel. Por último, se procede a una revisión iconográfica y cronológica del propio hallazgo, conservado en el Museo de los Orígenes de Madrid, en el marco del yacimiento arqueológico urbano de Carabanchel.
