The Bulletin de l’Association canadienne des bibliothécaires de langue française (ACBLF) was created in 1955 by Edmond Desrochers. In doing so, the ACBLF severed the ties it had with Fides, ties it had since its creation in 1943. In the early 1960s, librarianship in Québec experienced something of a renewal when the creation of the École de bibliothéconomie and the adoption of two laws by the National Assembly, one concerning public libraries and the other concerning school libraries. A few years later, Québec established a national library. These years, represented for the Bulletin, a break from the traditional and moralistic vision of the book and the library. Since that time the Bulletin evolved with the times and reflected access to modernity regarding the book and the library in Québec society.
Le Bulletin de l’Association canadienne des bibliothécaires de langue française (ACBLF) a été créé en 1955 à l’instigation d’Edmond Desrochers. Ce faisant, l’ACBLF rompait les liens qu’elle avait tissés avec Fides depuis ses débuts en 1943. Au début de la décennie 1960, la bibliothéconomie québécoise connaît un renouveau avec la fondation de l’École de bibliothéconomie et le vote par l’Assemblée législative de deux lois, l’une sur la bibliothèque publique et l’autre sur la bibliothèque scolaire. Quelques années plus tard, le Québec se dote d’une bibliothèque nationale. Pour le Bulletin, ces années représentent aussi une coupure avec la vision traditionaliste et moralisante du livre et de la bibliothèque. Dès lors, le Bulletin a accompagné les changements et a reflété l’accès à la modernité concernant le livre et la bibliothèque dans la société québécoise.
